FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

DARK LIP NEUTRALIZATION

CAN I GET MY LIPS BLUSHED IF I HAVE DARK/COOL TONED LIPS?

At your first session we will have to colour correct your lips first to even out the darker areas and to cancel out the cool tones. So, yes you can get your lips blushed, but we need to neutralize them first.

WHY DO I NEED A NEUTRALIZATION SESSION FIRST AND WHY CAN'T I GET MY LIPS BLUSHED STRAIGHT AWAY?

As mentioned above we need to cancel out the cool tones first. What this means is that we need to go in with a warm and bright colour, like orange. The reason that we can't go in with any other colour  (especially a cool colour) straight away is because we can actually risk darkening your lips further. If we were to go in with a neutral colour you will most likely be left with no results once they have healed. Warm and bright colours get the job done. Your lips will take between 8-12 weeks to heal. Once healed and most if not all of the darkness are covered we can go in with your target colour. You might love how they have healed an decide to not go in with a target colour.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Kindly note that results cannot be guaranteed and the amount of sessions needed will differ from case to case. Some clients will need two sessions while other clients may need more.

HOW LONG DOES A LIP NEUTRALIZATION LAST?

Dark Lip Neutralization can last anywhere between 2-5 years. This all depends on your lifestyle and skin type. The sun is one of the main reason that permanent makeup fades. You can prolong your cosmetic tattoo by wearing a lip balm that contains SPF.

HOW LONG IS THE PROCEDURE?

This procedure can take between 3h30min to 4 hours. If you have bigger lips the session will take 4 hours. Kindly be patient on the day. This is a very delicate procedure and requires patience.

IS IT PAINFUL?

I have asked past clients to rate the pain they have experienced for this procedure out of 10. Most of my clients have rated it between 1 and 5 out of 10. My business is registered with a compounding pharmacy and their numbing agents are excellent. Some of my clients fall asleep, but kindly note that everybody experience pain differently.

The law around numbing has changed, so kindly note that you have to order and purchase your own numbing agents.

The process:

Fill out this online Patient Care Checklist – https://compoundingpharmacy.com.au/topical-anaesthetic-patient-care-checklist/

-This form gives the compounding pharmacy all the information that they need from their side to safely dispense the product. It provides them information on the date and place you are having their procedure, which tells them which clinic to send it to and by when. They have now integrated the payment page and patient care checklist to avoid any possible delays getting the product to my salon in time for the appointment.

-This form is screened by their pharmacist to ensure the product is suitable and safe to use without any adverse reactions. You may be contacted at this point if they are concerned.

-They will send the product directly to my salon before your procedure date, which you put in the checklist information.

You will receive two numbing agents, a Pre-procedure cream and a During procedure gel that works on broken skin and that will keep you numb throughout the procedure.

WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS LIKE?

For the first 24 hours you might experience some swelling. It is normal and all swelling will subside within 24 hours. You will experience dryness and chapped lips for a couple of days. Your lips should be done scabbing on the 5th day. It is not a long healing process. You will be able to see the final healed results after 8-12 weeks, just before your touch-up.

AM I THE RIGHT CANDIDATE FOR THIS IF I SUFFER FROM COLD SORES?

Lip Blush can trigger the virus and this can result in a flare up, therefor it is advised to get prescribed anti-viral medication. Kindly consult your physician should you wish to get this treatment done and have ever had a cold sore, even if it was 20 years ago.

CAN I GET THIS DONE IF I HAVE FILLERS?

Yes, you can. If you wish to get fillers before your procedure, kindly do so 4 weeks before your procedure. Filler and lip blush in my opinion go hand in hand. Lip blush will give you your desired colour and filler will give you volume.

CAN I GET PMU IF I HAVE ANY MEDICAL CONDITIONS?

HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

-Avoid Alcohol, Aspirin and Ibuprofen at least 48 hours prior to you appointment.

-Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor.

-Bring a lipstick colour or two to your appointment.

-Start exfoliating your lips with a sugar scrub one week before your procedure (one teaspoon honey/olive oil mixed with two teaspoons sugar).

WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON THE DAY OF MY INITIAL PROCEDURE?

On entrance you will be required to sanitize your hands and to fill in a mandatory consultation form.

I will then clean your lips and start mapping them. This is a such a fun part of the procedure, we are going to give your lippies a beautiful, new and improved shape or we are just going to enhance what is already there. Once you have approved the shape I will numb the lips with a topical numbing for 20 minutes. While your lips are numbing I will start mixing your colour. How do we decide on a colour? I will match the pigment to your shade of lipstick. I also establish which number you are on the Fitzpatrick scale and determine if you have a cool or warm undertone. This way we can ensure that your preferred colour will age well and suit your complexion. Once you are numb I will start etching the outline of your lips. I then lightly open up the rest of the lip and apply the secondary numbing. I usually do two passes per lip and end off with a perfection and blending pass.

There is a chance that your lippies will be swollen directly after the procedure, but the swelling will subside within an hour and completely within 24 hours. The colour will also look really bold afterwards, but will however fade by 60%.

WHAT PIGMENT BRAND DO YOU USE?

I use Ever After pigments. This is a high quality and superior pigment load combined with high lightfastness and durability, it results in less need for touch-ups and less trauma to the skin. Only the best for my clients.
